Go White for Palu


The earthquake and tsunami that hit Palu is devastating and heartbreaking, leaving the world in mourning. Thousands of people have lost their homes, belongings, treasured memories, and most importantly their loved ones. 5,000 people have been reported missing and the death till has hit 1,763 and continues to rise as boding are being dug out from under the rubble left and right.

The Indonesian community is holding a fundraising event this Sunday, Oct 21st. Ticket are still available.

THE PROCESS OF MAKING TEMPEH


1. Wash and soak dehulled soybeans overnight
 2 Boil until soybeans are soft or edible
 3. Cool down soybeans to room temperature
 4. Add 5grams of innoculum to 1 kg of soybeans
 5. Mix it well and bag it in perforated plastic bags
 6. Weigh the mixture 250 gram each
 7. Compact and flatten the bags on perforated trays
 8. Keep it in room temperature around 26 C and around 40% humidity for about 48 to 50 hours
9. Final products

TEMPEH SAUSAGE OR PATTIES


Ingredients :
500 g tempeh, grated
3 tbsp vegetable oil with a small amount of sesame oil
1 tsp sage
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp white flour

Instructions :
1.Mix 2 tbsp oil with  all other ingredients. Use balance of oil to brush onto unbaked tempeh patties
2. Make 1 inch balls, place on oiled baking sheet and flatten balls ( use spatula or fork) to ½ inch thickness
3. Brush with remaining oil, then bake in 400  degree F for 5 minutes or until golden brown on bottom side, flip over patties and bake for another 5 minutes.





SWEET MARINATED TEMPEH


Ingredients :
1 onion,
3 cloves garlic
1 tsp Coriander powder
2 tbsp Brown sugar
1 tsp of Vinegar or Lemon Juice
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 cups of water

Instructions :
Mix everything in a blender
Boil the blended spices with 2 cups of water
Add sliced tempeh and simmer for 30 minutes
Pan fry or grill the tempeh
